Founder Profile

Caroline was born and raised in Washington, DC. She grew up exploring the gardens of her neighborhood and eventually the civic spaces of the city, sparking a love for design, plants and the environment. After high school she moved to the historic city of Charleston, SC to attend the College of Charleston. Caroline quickly developed a deep appreciation for the history and parks of the city. It was here that her career path became clear; landscape architecture had been calling her name all along. She began pursing this dream taking drawing and landscape design courses. Her love for the profession was solidified and she transferred to the University of Georgia to obtain a bachelors degree in Landscape Architecture.

At UGA, Caroline focused her studies on sustainable design, urban design and plants. She was chosen to study abroad in Italy, where she gained a deeper appreciation for classical design principals. After graduating in 2008, Caroline moved to San Francisco to work under the direction of Michael Callan. Here she embraced both traditional and modern design while learning about the extensive plant pallet of the Mediterranean climate which is present in the Bay Area. Caroline continued to follow her passion working with firms Shades of Green and Terra Ferma Landscapes.

In 2014, Caroline launched Canopy Design Studios to combine her passion for great design and best business practices. Caroline shines designing modern gardens with a traditional twist and possesses a deep understanding of how people connect with the environment.

When not in the studio, Caroline can be found hiking, seeing music, hanging with her dogs, entertaining or cooking.
